Conclusion of the report: A future with more water and more life

When the H2OLOCK project started, we started from a shared concern: Water, that resource we always took for granted, was becoming scarce and increasingly difficult to manage. Drought, high temperatures and invisible losses from evaporation threatened the sustainability of agriculture in southern Europe.
Today, after years of work, we can proudly say that we have found an answer. We have shown that it is possible to reduce evaporation by up to 80%, that water is kept cleaner and that, in addition, we can take advantage of the surface of the ponds to produce floating solar energy. These are not theories: are results measured in the field, with real farmers already using this innovation on more than eighty ponds.
The LIFE project gave us the initial impetus. It allowed us to investigate, test, make mistakes and learn. But the real challenge starts now, with the After-LIFE Plan. The next three years are the opportunity to multiply what has been achieved: extending innovation to hundreds of ponds, saving millions of cubic meters of water, generating clean energy and helping make Mediterranean agriculture more resilient to climate change.

The water saved today is the life secured for tomorrow. And with H2OLOCK, that life can continue to flow through the fields, the villages, and future generations
LIFE H2OLOCK has sown the seeds of a more resilient agriculture in the Mediterranean and in other regions of the world facing water scarcity. The challenge now is to extend this technology and continue working in networks with farmers, institutions, and companies to multiply its impact.

Thank You for making It possible!

This achievement is the result of the joint effort of many:
• The European Union, through the LIFE Programme, which funded and supported the project.
• The partner entities: ARANA Water Management, ARADA Ingeniería, CTC, CRL, AVIPE, Global Factor, who contributed knowledge, experience, and commitment.
• The farmers and irrigation communities who trusted in innovation and opened the doors of their farms to us.
• The technical and communication teams, who made it possible to measure, disseminate, and share every step forward.
To all of them, our most sincere gratitude.
