The LIFE H2OLOCK project was presented at the Ordinary General Assembly of the Lorca Irrigators’ Community, a key event for the agricultural sector in the region. In front of more than 300 irrigators from the Guadalentín Valley, the project’s progress and initial results were shared, consolidating its role as an innovative solution for efficient water management.
The event was attended by prominent authorities, including the President of the Region of Murcia, Fernando López Miras, and the Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil Jódar.
During the presentation, there was a live demonstration of the technology, allowing attendees to experience its operation firsthand and learn about the benefits it offers in optimizing water use. Additionally, the current status of the project was explained, and provisional results were shared, which have been highly positive:
- Reduction of evaporation by more than 80%, a key step in preventing water loss in irrigation ponds.
- Complete elimination of algae, improving the quality of stored water and reducing maintenance needs.
- Integration of photovoltaic energy, combining the product’s sustainability with the generation of clean energy.
These achievements highlight the importance of moving towards solutions that ensure more efficient water use in agriculture. In the context of climate change and water scarcity, irrigation ponds will no longer be conceived without a cover that minimizes losses and guarantees water quality.
LIFE H2OLOCK continues to progress, preparing for its implementation when European policies require it and ensuring that irrigators have an effective and sustainable technology for water management.
